Prediction: Galatasaray vs Fenerbahce

Best odds: 1/1

Bookmaker:

Galatasaray have the chance of mathematically securing the Turkish Super Lig title on Sunday, when they face bitter rivals Fenerbahce at the Nef Stadyumu in Istanbul. It will be a nice prelude for the Champions League final, which takes place six days later in the city on the Bosphorus.

Galatasaray

Galatasaray haven t been crowned Turkish champions since 2019, and last season was a particularly sore disappointment for their supporters, seeing their team finish in 13th place. Looking at it from the other side, it will only make the prospect of climbing back on the throne even more exciting.

As things stand at the moment, Okan Buruk s side top the table with 82 points, five ahead of the visitors with two games left. A draw will o…

Equal prize money at men’s and women’s World Cups is a must, says FIFPRO

Equal prize money at the 2026 and 2027 men’s and women’s World Cups has to happen “no matter what”, according to world players’ union FIFPRO.

Gianni Infantino, the president of football’s global governing body FIFA which organises the tournaments, said in March it was his ambition for there to be equal prize money after this summer’s Women’s World Cup.

He has said sponsors and broadcasters must play their part in helping to achieve that, something FIFPRO general secretary Jonas Baer-Hoffmann agrees with.

However, Baer-Hoffmann insisted on Friday that equal prize money must not just be a goal – it was essential.

“It is not wrong from FIFA to actually call all the other economic contributors to the tournament to the table,” he said.

Bayern grit pleases milestone man Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski was happy to see Bayern Munich show their gritty side ahead of a Bundesliga showdown with leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

The Polish striker scored both goals in a hard-fought 2-1 win home over Wolfsburg on Wednesday which kept Bayern a point behind Leverkusen in second place.

Lewandowski s brace saw him become only the third player in Bundesliga history to pass 250 goals after Gerd Muller (365) and Klaus Fischer (268), though he is the first non-German to achieve the feat.

Hansi Flick s side face Leverkusen on Saturday in a top-of-the-table clash which will decide which team lead the standings for the subsequent mid-season break.

I m happy that I scored twice today and that we got three points, Lewandowski told reporters.

Gareth Southgate says Raheem Sterling’s England absence down to football reasons

Gareth Southgate insists Raheem Sterling and Ben White have been left out of another England squad purely due to football reasons, but claimed the door is not closed on either.

Southgate named a 25-man group on Thursday for this month’s Euro 2024 qualifiers with Malta and North Macedonia.

John Stones was left out after he suffered an injury in Manchester City’s midweek win over Young Boys and Eddie Nketiah was also absent with an ankle knock, but Southgate declined the chance to recall 82-capped Sterling or Arsenal’s versatile defender White.

Both players have failed to feature in an England squad since the World Cup, where White headed home early after the group stage and Sterling briefly left the camp after his family home had been burgled.

Netherlands 3-2 Wales: Three Things We Learned

Another night of Nations League action has come and gone and arguably the most electric game of the evening took place in Rotterdam. Wales travelled to the Netherlands to take on the 2014 World Cup finalists in a rematch of a clash that went down just a matter of days ago.

It was a fascinating back and forth affair between two incredibly exciting sides and in the end, it was the Dutch who came away with a dramatic 3-2 win.

Depay = the man

Memphis Depay now has 42 international goals to his name after scoring the late winner here, putting him just eight behind the all-time leader Robin van Persie. That s the kind of legacy he ll want to leave behind and with Louis van Gaal back at the helm, he seems to be getting the best out of himself which is great considering he s j…

Juventus v Milan: Szczesny and defences in spotlight as Serie A history beckons

For so long, Juventus dominated Serie A and Milan.

Juve won nine successive Scudetti before being dethroned by Inter last season. Gianluigi Buffon was involved in eight of them.

But it s a period of change in Turin, where Wojciech Szczesny is well and truly under the microscope after an error-riddled start to the 2021-22 season.

As Juve struggle defensively, form could hardly be more contrasting heading into Sunday s blockbuster showdown in the northwest of Italy.

Milan have continued to be a solid defensive outfit, winning their opening three league fixtures, and the resurgent Rossoneri could strike an early dagger to the heart of the Old Lady.
